I love my KOHA
I went live with my new library catalog last week. Thanks to the Green Mountain Library Consortium and Richard Pritsky at Carpenter-Carse I’m finally fulfilling my open-source dreams. I’ve been wanting to try Koha since I started at this tiny school, but I wasn’t up for running it myself. Thankfully, the Consortium came along to hold my hand. And now I can say without reservation, if you are considering going with Koha and you have a small library, do it. It’s a thing of beauty and very simple to use. I’m not going to link to my catalog here because there are too many things I want to work on before I’m ready to broadcast it to the world, but did want to share – I’m live!

Congratulations Pam! I look forward to hearing more about your experience getting it up and running.

Wow, Pam. You’re my hero. We (a small college library) were tempted to switch to Koha as well, with LibLime helping and with a WALDO discount, but the data migration alone would have cost tens of thousands of dollars. So instead, we’re watching Koha’s evolution with admiring interest, with a view to switch in the future if we can find a way to reduce the migration costs. Thanks for being one of the early adopters that will make Koha all the more accessible for the rest of us!

Thanks guys! So far so good, still working out a few kinks.
Jennifer – why so much for migration? Is that a Sirsi issue? yikes.

Jennifer, where are you located? Perhaps you might consider partnering with the GMLC, too — we have a fabulous support deal with ByWater Solutions for both our eventual consortium ILS and for standalone installations.
